New Delhi: On expected lines, UPA candidate and former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday won the race to occupy the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Mukherjee secured 7,13,763 vote value in Presidential Election 2012, well ahead of the half-way mark of 5,25,140 in an electoral college of over 10.5 lakh.

His rival PA Sangma, supported by some opposition parties including BJP, could manage get only 3,15,987 vote value, according to Rajya Sabha Secretary General VK Agnihotri.

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee was on Sunday formally elected to be the 13th President-designate of India.

Mukherjee, who has so far polled around 5,58,195 votes, will replace incumbent Pratibha Patil as the country's next president on Wednesday morning.
